The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) shares over 100 datasets on HDX that help governments make cities more livable, resilient, and sustainable, and track progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. The data, shared through an API, is updated annually and covers some 200 countries and territories.
The datasets cover:
- Open Spaces and Green Areas (how much open space is available in cities)
- Housing, Slums and Informal Settlements (proportion of people in cities living in slums or informal settlements)
- Urban Transport (how many people in cities have access a public transport)
- Spatial Growth of Cities and Urban Areas (annual land consumption rates in cities)
The 100 datasets average 250 downloads per week from users in over 130 countries. In 2015, UN-Habitat shared data covering demographic, health, education and transport indicators which is no longer being updated but is still available to download through the HDX archive.
