We are introducing new designs for all country pages in the Humanitarian Data Exchange. The pages provide an overview of key figures, interactive graphs for a number of baseline indicators, and a list of datasets for the country.
For instance, a quick glance at the country page for Eritrea shows that the under-five mortality rate has declined since 1990, food supply has remained steady, and mobile subscriptions have had a sharp increase in recent years but still only remain at 5 per cent of the population. The data underlying every graph and key figure is linked and available for download.
Country Data
The key figures for all countries include data for the following indicators:
- Total population — World Bank
- Population density — World Bank
- Human Development Index rank — UNDP
- GDP per capita — World Bank
- Land area — World Bank
Each country page also includes visuals for five out of the following 13 baseline indicators, based on the availability of the data for a specific country:
- Children under five mortality rate per 1,000 live births —UN DESA
- Prevalence of undernourishment —FAO
- Proportion of the population using improved drinking water sources — UN DESA
- Per capita food supply — FAO
- Population living below $1.25 PPP per day — UNDP
- Mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 inhabitants — World Bank
- Total net enrolment ratio in primary education — UN DESA
- Internet users per 100 inhabitants — World Bank
- Number of disasters — CRED
- Mean years of schooling of adults — UNDP
- Children under 5 moderately or severely underweight — UN DESA
- Population undernourished — UN DESA
- Proportion of the population using improved sanitation facilities — UN DESA
Curated Country Pages
The majority of the 200 countries covered in HDX follow the pattern above. For countries with an active humanitarian response, we will have curated pages similar to what we developed for Colombia. These pages have data specially chosen for its relevance to a humanitarian operation, such as the number of IDPs or the location of health facilities. These pages are managed through local OCHA offices with support from the HDX data team. We will be adding more curated pages over the coming year, starting with Mali.
